Gluten Free

There is a lot of talk about gluten free diets and how it is an easy way to lose weight.  Just 10 years ago nobody knew what the word gluten meant.  So what is gluten?  Gluten is a wheat protein found in wheat, rye and barely.  In addition it is found in processed foods, sauces, dressings, soups and much more.   Today gluten is talked about in the News, it has become celebrities new hot diet trend and is becoming more popular in markets and restaurants. More people are being diagnosed with celiac disease, gluten sensitivity and put on gluten free diets for other health issues.  Is it okay for an individual with no problems to go on a gluten free diet? Sure, but is it the healthiest choice, no.  Being on a gluten free diet restricts you from eating processed and fatty foods causing you to eat more fresh products.  However, gluten free products tend to have more sugar and fat added to them.  If you are going on a gluten free diet to lose weight, ditch the extra carbs and processed foods and increase consumption of whole grains and fresh products.
